Coloring is great for numerous reasons. It’s been shown to decrease anxiety levels. Using your mind to color, instead of worry, is very calming. Plus, coloring can be very relaxing when you want to unwind from a long week. It’s also a way to keep the kids entertained on a rainy day when they can’t be outside. Additionally, it’s easy to bring a piece of paper and some coloring tools wherever you go. Take these along on a road trip or a waiting room.
Coloring is also a fantastic way to expand your artistic skills and practice hand coordination and strengthening. Practicing coordination can be beneficial for young children. Strengthening can be beneficial for elderly who are losing hand dexterity.
We used both crayons and pretty colored permanent markers. You can use any coloring tool you wish or have on hand. Colored pencils, regular markers, or even watercolor paint are excellent options.
